At Puma we were not alone in the pursuit to capture the hearts and minds of gamers. Our collaboration with Playseat helped us connect with the community and respond to needs as yet unmet by the gaming industry.

When Playseat approached Puma Innovation with the opportunity to collaborate on their new seat concept I was immediately hooked. Not only did we have the opportunity to cross over into a new sector but also to work with the first-class team that is Playseat. It was also a thrill to be picked up in a helicopter and flown to Playseat Headquarters in Doetinchem, Netherlands for a meeting with the team.
Playseat Playsuit
Alongside creating a gaming seat we created gaming apparel with Swedish based design house Atacac. Their methodology of kinetic garment construction was the foundation for the collection. This is the practice of shaping patterns based on human anatomy; the form of the body, the skin that drapes it and how it moves and stretches. Done properly the garment moves with the body in enhanced comfort.

We took the opportunity to test the Active Gaming Seat with professionals competing in the ESL Tournament in Milan.

What is it?
The first ever gaming seat designed for console gaming. Created in partnership with industry gaming seat leader, Playseat.
Why is it innovative?
It answered to an unmet need; a gaming seat that allows gamers to be active while playing otherwise sedentary video games.
What were the biggest challenges?
Converting performance materials used in footwear to furniture.

I was the driving force behind introducing this entirely new product and architecture to Puma and it’s partners. It forged a new path for our entry into esports and gaming.
Why was it successful?
It was, and still is, the only product of its kind. Validated by both professional and amateur gamers, it put us into a lead position within our industry.
